Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in education specialising in English and Literature from Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya. He taught at high school before studying for an MA and PhD in African literature and culture at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He has taught at universities, including the Witwatersrand, Masinde Muliro, Strathmore, Marist, Tangaza and Nairobi. He is a senior lecturer in the Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi. He sits on the editorial board of various journals, including African Studies, Journal of Eastern African Literary and Cultural Studies and Hekima. He writes for the Saturday Nation, Sunday Nation, The EastAfrican, Nairobi Law Monthly, Nairobi Business Monthly, The Somali Investor, among other publications. He has been an editor for several years, working on manuscripts by individuals and reports for organisations, including the Parliament of Kenya, UNESCO, IMLU, the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, Kenya Nursing Council, and Longhorn Publishers.
